Captain Kevin Black
Capt. Kevin Black began his maritime career in 1992 at Maine Maritime Academy, laying the foundation for a lifelong career on the water. He has held a U.S. Coast Guard Master’s License with multiple endorsements for over 30 years, reflecting a deep and diverse command background across multiple vessel types and operating environments.
Early in his career, Capt. Black worked with a national environmental services company, where he oversaw marine operations throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, managing vessels, crews, and regulatory compliance for complex marine projects. Following the Deepwater Horizon incident, he spent time in the Gulf of Mexico, operating a small tug and barge as part of an oil spill response team, supporting critical environmental recovery efforts.
Throughout his career, Capt. Black has completed numerous vessel deliveries and inspections, gaining extensive hands-on experience with both commercial and recreational vessels. He later served as a Port Captain in New York City, responsible for fleet oversight, operational readiness, and crew management in one of the nation’s busiest ports.
After decades of service in commercial and environmental marine operations, Capt. Black chose to branch out independently, bringing his experience, leadership, and commitment to safety to his own ventures. Today, he continues to apply that expertise through his marine operations in Cape May, New Jersey, delivering professional, reliable service rooted in real-world experience and proven seamanship.
Captain Gavin Black
Captain Gavin Black grew up on the water, developing a strong foundation in seamanship alongside his father from an early age. His passion for boating and marine operations began young, and by 16, he owned and operated his first vessel—an 18-foot center console—gaining hands-on experience navigating local waters and varying conditions.
At just 18 years old, Capt. Black earned his U.S. Coast Guard Captain’s License and began running fishing charters on his own vessel, where he quickly developed real-world skills in vessel handling, customer service, trip planning, and safety management.
Seeking to expand his professional experience, Capt. Black went on to work in New York City as a Launch Captain, operating in one of the busiest and most demanding maritime environments in the country. While working in NYC, he pursued additional maritime training and courses, continually building his knowledge of navigation, regulations, and commercial vessel operations.
Today, Capt. Gavin Black brings together lifelong on-the-water experience, formal training, and big-port operational expertise, offering professional, reliable service grounded in strong seamanship and a commitment to continual learning.
